About the Journal
About
The OZP is published by the Austrian Political Science Association (AuPSA) four times a year since 1972. It is the main political science journal in Austria, indexed in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), in SCOPUS and ERIH plus.
All research article undergo a double-blind peer review process. While our focus is on political science, we also welcome contributions from related subjects.
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Furthermore, we do not charge any fees (“APCs") from the authors.
To submit a manuscript, please register/log in first and make sure you have read the section policies before submitting to the OZP. In case you are interested in organizing a special issue, you can find our guidelines here.
Journal History and Archive
The OZP is published by the ÖGPW since 1972, and is a renowned journal for social sciences in Austria. Since 2015, the journal publishes all its content openly accessible.
All issues since 2000 can be found online in the archive. All issues between 1972 and 2014 can be found in university libraries, for example at the University and State Library of Tyrol (also for interlibrary loan).
Focus and Scope
The OZP has been a voice for political science analysis and research in Austria since 1972. Published by the Austrian Political Science Association (AuPSA/ÖGPW), it is open to submissions in German and English and without preference to any social science research discipline or methodological approach. It is committed solely to free scientific research and scientific quality.
Its aim is to promote communication and exchange between different social and political science research directions, perspectives and methods.
All submissions (with the exception of book reviews) are subject to a double-blind peer-review process (especially research articles) or a review by the editorial board (e.g. forum and discussion contributions).
The journal is primarily interested in the state of the art in political science and in current developments in Austria and Europe, but articles and research reports of general relevance to political science without direct reference to Austria are also considered.
Peer Review Process
Every research article submitted to the OZP will be evaluated independently by peers (double-blind peer review).
To avoid potential conflicts of interest, neither department colleagues, nor (previous) collaborators of an author are permitted to review a submitted paper. Potential reviewers are encouraged to inform the editor in case of any doubt.
To avoid scientific misconduct, the OZP follows a three-fold approach:
a) Upon submission, authors have to declare that this paper is based on their own research, and is an original, unpublished contribution by signing the copyright agreement. The journal holds authors solely responsible in cases of plagiarism.
b) The responsible editor, together with the assistant editors, scrutinizes each submitted paper before putting it into review. In difficult cases, the editor will seek advise from the editorial board.
c) The reviewers are asked to highlight any suspicion regarding potential plagiarism. In cases of doubt, final decision on publication of an article will be made by the responsible editor.
Publication Frequency
The OZP is published in two issues per year in continuous publishing format. Each article is published as an online first article as soon as it is ready for publication. All articles published between January and June of a year are summarized in issue 1, all articles from July to December in issue 2. Special issues are published as required.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. The journal does not charge any fees (“APCs"). It is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
