Gezi-Park-Proteste: Neue Möglichkeiten, Alte Grenzen?

The following paper analyzes the Gezi Park protests against the planed demolition of a public park in Istanbul in May 2013 which spread around the country within a short time. We argue that Gezi Park protests have arisen out of a critique of the conservative-religious neoliberalism of the ruling AKP (Justice and development Party) and that the protests have sought to create new spaces and forms of participatory politics as an alternative to exclusionary instutitons and processes of decision making within institutional politics. While recognizing the transformative potential of the protests, we also point at the challenges that await the protests.Downloads
