Abstract

Der Aufsatz beschreibt und analysiert den Zusammenhang zwischen den Entwicklungen der politischen Kultur der Zweiten Republik und der Vergangenheitspolitik – der Nutzung von Geschichte für politische Ziele. Für die Anfänge der Konkordanzdemokratie war es wesentlich, die Differenz der historischen Wahrnehmung zwischen den beiden die Konkordanzdemokratie tragenden Lagern zu betonen. Für die Abstiegsphase der Konkordanzdemokratie ist dies nicht mehr möglich. In dieser Phase wird nun der Nationalsozialismus, in der Nachkriegszeit ein eher tabuisiertes, weil die beiden Lager nicht trennendes Thema der Vergangenheitspolitik, zum entscheidenden Thema der politisch relevanten Erinnerung. Dieser Wandel der Vergangenheitspolitik wird abschließend in Bezug zu dem von Peter Loewenberg entwickelten Konzept des „Decoding“ gebracht.
